More than 50 people including women, children and policemen were injured in the clash between the two groups over dominance in Brahmanbaria Sarail upazil a on Thursday . 15 people have been arrested in this incident.
The clash took place in Parmanandpur village of Pakshimul Union of the upazila from 9 am to 11:30 pm on Thursday.
According to the police, there is a dispute between the local Kanchan group and the Ziaul Amin group over the dominance in the village.
As a result of this, on Thursday morning, Abdul Mannan Mia of Kanchan group and Rashid Mia of Ziaul Amin group arranged a discussion about taking over the paddy drying shed. As a result, people from both sides clashed with indigenous weapons.
On receiving the information, the police went and stopped the clash. Five policemen and more than half a hundred people from both sides were injured in the clash.
The injured are being treated at various hospitals including nearby Bhairab Upazila Health Complex.
Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emranul Islam said that after receiving the information, the police went and fired tear shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. 15 people have been arrested from the spot so far. An operation is underway to catch the rest. Five policemen including a sub-inspector (SI) were also injured in the incident. At present the situation is under control.
Sarail Thana OC also said that they went to the spot as soon as possible to control.
