Over 50 injured in Bijoynagar clash

At least 50 people were injured in a clash between the two sides in Brahmanbaria's Bijoynagar.

The clash took place in Bulla village of Harshpur union of the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

During the conflict, several houses were attacked and vandalized.

According to the locals, at least seven groups, including Kawsar member group, Haji group, Maizhgaon group, were in conflict with the local Nawab Ali group after the UP elections.

Six months ago, Kawsar member's daughter eloped with Nawab Ali clan's Abdul Ahad's son Mohsin. A dispute arose between them again.

As a result, people of both groups clashed with indigenous weapons on Wednesday. At that time, at least seven groups, including the Haji group, Maizhgaon group, were involved in the conflict on behalf of the Kausar member group.

At least 50 people were injured on both sides. The injured have been treated at various private clinics including District Headquarters Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bijaynagar police station Arshadul Islam said that there was a dispute between the two sides for a long time regarding a matter related to the girl. This led to a conflict between them. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed at the spot to avoid further clashes.
