Over 200 houses were gutted by a devastating fire at Tanjimarkhola Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
Three units of fire service brought the fire, which broke out at about 1:00pm, under control at 2:30pm after one and a half hours’ of hectic efforts.
The fire erupted at Kanthaltali Market in D-3 block of the camp and soon destroyed the nearby houses.
APBN-8 Captain Md Amir Zafar confirmed the facts but could not say how the fire originated.
On information, two units of Ukhia Fire Service reached the spot and started working to control the fire. Later, one more unit from Ramu Station joined them after 2:00pm. The fire was brought under control around 2:30pm.
Locals said more than 200 Rohingya houses and the centre of an NGO organisation were damaged. No casualties have been reported so far.Earlier, there was a fire incident in the same camp on May 24. Although there were no casualties, more than 300 houses were destroyed in the fire.
