Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized more than 2 kg of crystal meth also known as ice from Hariyakhali border of Naf River in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
Battalion Captain of BGB Teknaf-2 Lieutenant Colonel Md Mohiuddin Ahmed said that they conducted a drive at Hariyakhali border of Naf River under Subrang Union in Teknaf at midnight on Saturday and seized the crystal meth. But they couldn’t catch anyone as the smugglers managed to escape.
He said that acting on a tip-off that a large shipment of drugs will be smuggled from Myanmar through the Hariyakhali area of Naf River in Teknaf, they conducted a drive. At one point, members of BGB noticed three suspicious men were crossing the Naf River from Myanmar’s side with a small sack and coming towards them. They ordered them to stop at that time. Sensing the presence of BGB members, they dropped the sack and escaped to the locality. Later, members of BGB searched the area and recovered a small sack and a sharp local weapon known as 'Kirich' left by the smugglers. They found 2.117 kg of crystal meth from the sack.
The recovered drugs are kept in the battalion office of BGB, he added.
