The government has issued an ordinance raising the age limit for entering public sector jobs to 32.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin issued the ordinance on Monday. The gazette of the ordinance was also published by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Ministry of the Ministry Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to expose information to the people. The matter was revealed on Tuesday.
It sets the same age limit for appointments in government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, statutory authorities, public non-financial corporations, and self-governing bodies. The previous age limit in this regard was 30, while the limit was 32 years for the children and grandchildren of the freedom fighters.
It would come into effect immediately.
As the Parliament remains dissolved, and the president is satisfied that circumstances exist requiring immediate action, the President has promulgated the following ordinance under the powers granted by Article 93(1) of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
On October 24, the government decided to raise the maximum age limit for entering government jobs to 32 years, following multiple protests by job seekers.
