The operation of Sirajganj Express resumed again on Friday after being suspended for three months and 10 days.
The train started from Sirajganj town’s Bazar station at 6:00am on Friday. However, the number of passengers in the train was comparatively less as it was a holiday.
Earlier, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 4, Bazar station and Shahid M Mansoor Ali station, located at the western side of the bridge on Jamuna River, were vandalized and looted. The operation of the two stations and the only train running between Sirajganj-Dhaka, the Sirajganj Express, was suspended as a result.
Later, Sirajganj District BNP General Secretary and former student leader Saidur Rahman Bachchu, a member of Central BNP National Committee, held a rally and human chain programme, demanding the repair of the two stations, as well as to resume the operation of the train.
When spoken to Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Divisional Manager of Bangladesh Railway Paksey, he said that the train resumed its operation due to the demands of the students, especially District BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu, who spoke to me several times on the phone, saying that the operation of the train should be resumed as soon as possible. Moreover, Saidur Rahman Bachchu said Shaheed M Mansoor Ali station should also be repaired within a short time.
Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad also said that the damaged Shaheed M Mansoor Ali station will also be will be repaired by November 20.
