When the government is giving utmost importance to vocational education in a bid to create skilled manpower to face the challenge of the upcoming fourth industrial revolution, the students of vocational education system also want to prepare them as highly qualified manpower with higher education.

Against this backdrop, the polytechnic students have been demanding for opening door of higher education by allocating seats for diploma students in all engineering universities of the country for long. Not only in Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), they want to get chance for study in other engineering universities of the country, including BUET.

In order to realize the demands of all the students of Diploma in Engineering course including the

one of university seat allocation, polytechnic students formed a

human chain in Moulvibazar on Monday.

The hour-long human chain programme was held under the banner of Polytechnic Students in front of Moulvibazar Press Club. At this time, the students gave different slogans in favour of their demands.

Speakers of the human chain demanded prevention of session jam at any cost.

In order to prevent session jam they demanded auto promotion in theoretical courses of 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters suggesting to attach the practical courses with the next semester.

Their demands also included a short syllabus in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 8th semesters as well as ending the semesters as quickly as possible. If their demands are not met within the next 3 days, the students warned of a stronger movement.

Meanwhile, as part importance on technical education, the government has already created cadre posts for the technical institutions as part of its move to promote this sector for creating skilled work force to meet the growing demand at home and abroad.

The government has created some 12,607 posts to recruit huge work force for 113 technical schools, colleges, and polytechnic institutes. Among these 1,061 are cadre posts while, 11,546 are non-cadre posts.

All the necessary process have already been completed to issue the government order creating the huge number of posts.

In the meantime, the government is also working to establish a technical educational institute in all the upazilas of the country to create job opportunities.

As the government of Bangladesh is putting so much stress on technical education, the demand for allocated seats in all engineering universities for the diploma students seems to be a logical demand and this opportunity will help these students to develop themselves into skilled workforce in future.
