Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) said that only those who are genuinely eligible (Dhaka Residents) will be the beneficiaries of the grant for the underprivileged community.
The mayor made the comment while addressing as the chief guest at the business grant distribution program at Ranimahal Auditorium, on Wednesday.
"When I took over, I saw that many of the beneficiaries of the project were not Dhaka residents. We want to see only those who are genuinely eligible as the beneficiaries of the project. We have involved the councilors in this activity to ensure that."
Urging all concerned to be vigilant so that not a single penny of the project can go out of Dhaka, Barrister Sheikh Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been improving the living standards of those who live in villages or other towns through many other projects.
However, this is the only project to improve the living standards of marginalised and underprivileged people living in Dhaka. Therefore, the money of this project will be spent only for the people of Dhaka who are the voters of the capital.
A total of Tk 18 lakh business grant had been distributed at amounts of Tk 10,000 to 180 women of wards 67, 68 and 69 at the event.
Earlier, DSCC mayor Taposh visited Shahbagh's Flower Market, the link road from Bashabo Buddhist Temple to Kali Bari, Nandipara-Kadamtala canal as part of his weekly routine visit.
Dhaka-5 MP Kazi Monirul Islam Manu, South City Chief Executive Officer Farid Ahmed, Chief Engineer Saleh Ahmed, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Property Officer Rasel Sabrin, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque, councilors of concerned wards and councilors of reserved seats. , LIUPC project town manager Sohail Iqbal was present among others.
