The government has suspended another Union Parishad (UP) chairman and three members for irregularities in distribution of relief goods among poor people during the ongoing shutdown.
Separate notifications were issued in this regard by the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry on Wednesday. With them, a total of 39 local representatives have so far been suspended and among them 16 are UP chairmen, 22 are members and one is Zila Parishad member.
The suspended chairman is Jahedul Islam Chowdhury of Toytong union parishad in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar while the members are Md Bachu Mia of Ward No 8 of Char Aralia UP under Raypur upazila in Narsingdi, Md Shariful Islam of Ward No 7 of Nandalalpur UP under Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia and Md Habibur Rahman of Ward No 9 of Dowlatpur UP under Dowlatpur upazila of Kushtia. In the notifications, the ministry mentioned that they have been suspended for various reasons including embezzlement of relief and VGF programme's rice.
