One held with six gold bars in Satkhira

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized six gold bars weighing around 1103.15 grams from Kakdanga border in Kalaroa upazila of the district on Saturday.

The BGB members also arrested rickshaw-van puller Rashedul Islam, 24, son of Md Anis Zaman of Keragachi village in Kalaroa upazila in connection with the incident.

BGB Satkhira 33 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque said in a press release that it had secret information that a gold consignment would be smuggled from Bangladesh to India through Kakdanga border.

Based on the information, an operational team of the BGB led by Naib Subedar of Kakdanga Md. Hormuz of Kakdanga BOP conducted a raid there.

At that time, van puller Rashedul was arrested from the Goalchattar Bazar area around 8am this morning while moving suspiciously.

Later, his body was searched and six gold bars and a mobile phone were recovered from his body.

The weight of recovered gold is around 1103.15 grams and market value is at about Taka 1 crore 36 lakh 86 thousand and 186, said commanding officer of the BGB 33 battalion Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque.

He further said that the process of filing a case against the arrested with the Kalaroa Police Station in this regard is under process.

Besides, the process of depositing the gold bars at the Satkhira Treasury Office is underway, he added.
