Members of Bangladesh Army conducted a drive and detained one person with a 9mm pistol, a magazine and two rounds of bullet in Darshana area of Chuadanga district on Wednesday.
The detainee was identified as Shaharul Islam, 37, son of Peyar Ali, resident of Darshana’s Mobarak Para.
He was detained from Mobarak Para area of Darshana at around 10:30pm on Wednesday.
It was known that, acting on a tip-off, a team of Bangladesh Army led by Commander of Chuadanga army camp, Lieutenant Colonel Abedin, conducted an anti-illegal arms drive at Mobarak Para in Darshana.
Shaharul Islam was detained from his house during the drive. A 9mm automatic pistol (Made in USA), two rounds of bullet and a magazine were recovered from his possession at that time. The arms and ammunition were hidden under the ground behind his house. Commander of Chuadanga army camp Lieutenant Colonel Abedin confirmed the matter. He said the detainee was handed over to Darshana Police Station.
