Members of 59 battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested one person with seven gold bars from Sonamasjid land port under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Friday afternoon.
The arrested person was Md. Hamidul Hoque, 61, son of late Belal Uddin Ahmed of Raninagar under Boalia thana in Rajshahi district.
BGB in a press release said, acting on detective information, members of BGB of Sonamasjid Check Post searched a passport holder Bangladeshi national Hamidul Hoque as he was coming from India at around 5-30 pm and found the gold bars weighing 710.67 grams worth Tk. 74,10,156.
The BGB men also seized from his possession Indian currency 5,800 and Bangladeshi 18,400, the press release added. It further added that the arrested person with the gold and money was handed over to the police of Shibganj thana with a case.
