The government’s time befitting measures to empower women across the country deserve plaudits. The relentless support which the government is giving to our women in order to make them self-reliant is commendable, to say the least.
According to a report published in this daily on Friday, Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha under the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs has been implementing a project titled “Tottho Apa: Empowering Women Through ICT Towards Digital Bangladesh.”
The project aims at promoting women's empowerment by providing access to information and providing information technology services to helpless, poor, disadvantaged and underprivileged women in rural Bangladesh.

More projects like this need to
be implemented to push and
encourage our women forward
The government’s target is to empower one crore women through information technology. So far 70 lakh marginal women have benefited from this project.
In our country, male domination in the ICT sector is very much visible. One of the main reasons for this is the stereotypical thought that women cannot handle or perform technological based jobs. Therefore, this initiative will certainly change the view point and encourage more women to empower themselves.
The government should not stop here with this only initiative. More projects like this need to be implemented to push and encourage our women forward.
Gone are the days when women used to sit at home and look at household chores. Women empowerment in the ICT sector, is the social revolution that our government and other MNC’s are promoting. This process must constantly carry on, as it will not only give the companies more diversified skills but will also make women’s influence in the ICT sector noteworthy and equivalent to men.
