Bangladesh registered only one death from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am Saturday. This takes the total number of deaths to 27,891. The current positivity rate falls to 1.18 pc.
According to health experts, the Covid-19 situation in a country can be claimed to be under control if the infection rate remains under 5pc for two weeks. Bangladesh has successfully achieved that feat over a month ago.
The country recorded 154 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,570,835, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.
This is the lowest daily Covid infections in more than 18 months. The previous lowest daily Covid infections were 139 on April 12, 2020.

The death rate now stands at 1.78 percent in the country, as per the press release. Around 13,072 samples were tested during this time.
The lone deceased was from Dhaka, according to the press release.
Around 157 people recovered from the virus during the time. A total of 1,534,635 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 97.70 percent.
As of Saturday, 5,056,975 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 249,993,643 have been infected till now, according to Worldometer.
