‘Omar Faruk er Ma’, a Liberation War-based short film directed by MM Zahidur Rahman Biplob, was staged at Premier University (PU). The special screening of the short film took place at the central auditorium of the university on Wednesday (June 14).
A large number of students of the Premier University watched the short film where Prof Dr Kazi Shamim Sultana, vice-chancellor of Premier University, was present as the chief guest. Tanjina Alam Chowdhury, chairman of Law department of the university; Ahmed Rajib Chowdhury, proctor of the university; Anup Kumar Biswas, president of PU Cultural Committee; were also present at the time.
At the ceremony, a crest was handed over to MM Zahidur Rahman Biplob, director of the film.
Earlier, a special screening of the short film took place at the Bangladesh Film Archive in the capital in May on the occasion of the Mother’s Day-2023.
‘Omar Faruk er Ma’ is a heart-wrenching tribute to the sacrifice and resilience of a mother, who has been waiting for her son’s return for several decades.
The short film portrays the story of Omar Faruk, a brave freedom fighter who left home to join the Liberation War in 1971 at 21. Before leaving his house, he promised his mother that he would return to her and have a meal together. However, he was captured and martyred by Pakistani forces, leaving his mother waiting for him to come home for the past 46 years.
The film stars Dilara Zaman as Omar Faruk’s mother, while Sayed Babu portrays the character of Omar Faruk.
The film also stars Bonna Mirza, Shahed Sharif Khan, Khairul Alam Sabuj, Naznin Hasan Chumki, Salma Rahman, Ripon Chowdhury and ABM Motaharul Islam, among others.
The short film was produced with the financial support of the government.
