The government of Oman has opened its labor market in 12 categories, including doctors, engineers, nurses, and teachers, said the Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Shafiqul Rahman Chowdhury.
He mentioned that the government plans to legalize 96,000 illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Oman and is also considering waiving fines for these illegal immigrants.
He discussed those with Oman’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdul Ghaffar Bin Abdul Karim Al-Baloushi, at his office in the capital on Tuesday.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Ruhul Amin and others were present during the meeting.
The minister said that while skilled workers are currently receiving visas, proposals will be made to the working committee regarding the intake of unskilled workers.
Discussions also included dedicating a Technical Training Center (TTC) for Oman.
“We want to establish training facilities in one of our TTCs to meet Oman’s labor demands,” he said.
During the meeting, various bilateral interests and economic progress of Bangladesh were discussed, along with the friendly relationship between the two countries.
A joint working group meeting between the two nations is expected to take place soon.
