All the oil-loaded drums on an oil-laden water vessel exploded with a big bang when the vessel was caught by a fire in the River Buriganga on Wednesday.
One of the crews of the water vessel was burnt alive while two others remained missing.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police and Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) officials said, on information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered the charred body of a man from the oil-carrying trawler.

FSCD officials said at least two workers went missing and another was injured after the oil-laden trawler caught by the fire and explosions took place in the river near Fatullah Bazar in Narayanganj district on Wednesday.
Fakhruddin Ahmed, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service, said the fire broke out around 1:30 pm near the Meghna Depot Jetty. All the oil-laden drums on the trawler exploded with a big bang, causing panic among local residents, he said.
Upon sensing danger, all four crew members aboard the trawler jumped into the river. While one of the workers managed to swim ashore and was taken to a local hospital, the other three remained missing.
Ten firefighting units responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze by 3:30 pm.
Ziaur Rahman, in charge of the Meghna Depot, said that the trawler, loaded with oil drums, was en-route to Barishal. He added that preliminary investigations suggest the fire might have originated from a cooking stove as the workers were preparing their meal.
