Official dies falling into shaft, mother of examinee dies at DU

An official of Dhaka University died after falling into a lift shaft, while the mother of a student, who came to take the Agriculture Cluster Admission Test at the university, died on the campus on Friday. 

The victim was identified as Mohammad Abdulllah, a senior assistant director (accounts) of Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University.

He died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place in morning at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) building. He was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident. The university authorities formed a five-member investigation committee to find out the reason behind the incident. The committee was asked to submit a report within seven working days.

Apart from the probe body, a fact-finding committee was also formed and was asked to submit their findings within three working days.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan condoled the death.

Meanwhile, the mother of a student, died on the campus. The deceased is Shamim Ara Begum.

The incident took place on the Muhsin Hall ground where the Mirpur resident was waiting for her daughter, Arwa Tabassum, to finish the exam.

While Arwa was taking the exam, Shamim suddenly fell sick and was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital said she might have had a stroke on the field.

The body was handed over to the family following due procedure.
