At the Secretariat, banks, insurance and financial institutions, officers and employees were found in the holiday mode on Thursday, the first working day after the Eid holidays.
The presence of officers and employees in the workplace was almost normal on the first working day. The first few hours after the office started in the morning, the staff of the secretariat went to exchange Eid greetings. Ministers and secretaries of various ministries exchanged greetings with officials and employees. Normal activities also started in the Secretariat.
Due to the pandemic, people have spent the last two years of Eid in captivity. This time, the strictures of the Covid rule are no more. Many people rushed to the villages from Dhaka to celebrate Eid with their relatives as there were an additional three days off before the Eid holiday.
Despite the presence of officials in the banks, the number of customers was low. Officials were also seen exchanging greetings with customers. An official of Sonali Bank's Motijheel branch said that all the banks had lower customer presence on Thursday. Meanwhile, the transactions were much less than usual.
This time, the traditional image of many people leaving the capital by rail, road and waterways to share the joy of Eid with their loved ones, was witnessed. Dhaka became
empty as millions of people went to the villages to celebrate Eid. Now people are returning to Dhaka. The roads in Dhaka were mostly empty Thursday morning. The number of vehicles and passengers on the road was very low. Most of the markets were closed. As a result, the mood of Eid is still prevailing in the capital. Today,Friday and tomorrow, Saturday are the weekly holidays. Sunday is likely to witness the start of work and business activities as usual.
