Miscreants removed nuts and bolts from Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka rail line in Ramu upazila early Saturday, causing almost half-an-hour delay of the Cox’s Bazar Express train in leaving the Cox’s Bazar station.
The incident occurred in Kahatiapara area of Rashidnagar union in Ramu Upazila a day after Cox’s Bazar Express train went into commercial operation on Cox's Bazar-Dhaka route.
However, the police and other people concerned could not confirm whether it was a mere theft or a sabotage attempt.
Golam Rabbani, station master of Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station, said he came to know about the incident on Saturday morning. Later, other people concerned was informed about it.
Officials of railway engineering and construction companies visited the spot soon after the incident. Later, construction workers repaired he rail line by reassembling the nuts and bolts The train was made ready for operation at 12:30 pm, he added.
Golam Rabbani aid the train left for Dhaka after a half-hour delay due to the repair work of the railway line.
Fahmida Mostafa, UNO of Ramu Upazila and Abu Taher, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramu police station, visited the spot.
Abu Taher said that after hearing the news, a police team along with administration officials visited the scene.
Police are working to identify those involved in the incident, he added.
The Cox’s Bazar Express was inaugurated from Cox’s Bazar Railway Station around 12:30pm on Friday.
