Mobile library “Alokito Manush Chai (We want enlightened human beings)” of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, has been focusing candles and educating people in remote villages like the urban.
The people staying in rural level might avail the opportunities to read books, participate in cultural activities and competition.
The number of mobile library readers has dropped by one-third since the coronavirus pandemic broke out early this year.
Some boys and girls while collecting books from the mobile library in Jhenidah town said they avail the books enlisting their names as members with Tk 100 and transact books at Taka 10 every month. Sometimes they share the books with their near and dear ones to help them enlightened, they said.
Swapna, Suravi, Nayan and some other readers, belongs to students of college and university when asked, said not only reading of books, bit also they participate in cultural activities like recitation of poems, singing competition, debating, drawing, book review, dancing etc. where the authorities provide prizes to encourage the participants, especially, the students. Most of the readers were students, they informed.
This sort of activities has been involving the readers staying with knowledge-based work and refraining them from any evil activities that might help build a good nation for the future when the dirty politics and environment was prevailing at most of the educational institutions, they said.
According to the readers, the number of readers had reduced when the global pandemic corona virus was spreading its slap on the country. They readers were staying at a safer distance and not transacting books like previous times. It has been limiting the hours for practicing the knowledge for the people, they said.
Eminent educationist, retired vice principal of Jhenaidah Government Nurunnahar Women’s College Professor NM Shahjalal when contacted said Alokito Manush Chai, the mobile library of Biswasahitya Kendra has been uniting the enlightened people, both men and women for a movement against all odds and mi-believes in the society. Yet huge people, especially, boys and girls think positive towards building a cultured and just society.
Alamgir Hossain, library officer of mobile library providing services in Jhenaidah said they move for six days a week. They travel Jhenidah Sadar upazila for four days, while two days for upazilas of the district.
