Number of candidates in Sylhet SSC exams declines

In Sylhet, the pass rate was high in the last two years as the SSC exam was held with a shorter syllabus. While the number of irregular-failed candidates was also much higher than at other times. Therefore, the number of SSC candidates has decreased in Sylhet due to the low number of irregular-failed candidates this year. Compared to last year, more than six thousand candidates have decreased this year. However, Sylhet Education Board said that it is not unusual.

According to Sylhet Education Board sources, the SSC examination in 2020 and 2021 could not be held on schedule due to the Coronavirus pandemic. These exams have been conducted by reducing the syllabus when the situation is somewhat normal. Most of the irregular and failed candidates passed because of the short syllabus. As a result, the number of examinees has decreased compared to last time. The SSC exam will be held on April 30 under the Sylhet Education Board like the rest of the country.

This year 1 lakh 10 thousand 304 candidates have filled out the form for the SSC exam in Sylhet division. Out of which 45 thousand 552 are boys and 64 thousand 752 are girls. Last year 1 lakh 16 thousand 490 candidates filled out the form in the SSC examination. Among them, 1 lakh 15 thousand 391 participated in the examination. This time SSC exam will be held in 189 centers of the Sylhet division. Where there are 59 centers in Sylhet, 31 in Habiganj, 26 in Moulvibazar, and 33 in Sunamganj. Students of 931 institutions of Sylhet division will participate in the examination this time.

Sylhet Education Board Controller of Examination Professor Arun Chandra Pal said that in Sylhet, the number of students in the humanities department is more than the number of students in other departments. There are 79 thousand 937 candidates in the humanities department, 23 thousand 226 students in the science department, and 7 thousand 141 students in the business education department. This time the exam will be held for three hours in all subjects. Students should enter the center half an hour before the exam. No mobile or any kind of device can be used. Only the secretary can carry a smartphone or feature phone in the center. Strict action will be taken if anyone other than the secretary uses the mobile phone. He also said that the pass rate was high in Sylhet due to the short syllabus examination in the last two years, where the number of irregular and failed examinees was also high. Therefore, due to the low number of irregular-failed candidates this year, the number of SSC candidates in Sylhet has decreased 6 thousand 186. But it is not unusual, he said.

This time the total number of SSC candidates in Sylhet district is 41 thousand 394 out of which 17 thousand 267 are boys and 24 thousand 127 are girls, in Habiganj the number of candidates is 20 thousand 528 out of which 8 thousand 375 are boys and 12 thousand 653 are girls, in Moulvibazar the number of candidates is 24 thousand 711 out of which 9 thousand 830 are boys and 14 thousand 881 are girls and in Sunamganj district the total number of SSC candidates is 23 thousand 671 out of which 10 thousand 80 are boys and 13 thousand 591 are girls. Among the candidates this year, the number of irregular candidates is 18 thousand 376. 

Out of these, there are 7 thousand 932 boys and 10 thousand 474 girls.
