NSTU VC resigns amid student protests

Dr. Didarul Islam, the Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), has tendered his resignation citing personal reasons. The resignation was submitted via email to the President of the university on the morning of August 20.

The decision comes in the wake of intense student protests demanding administrative changes at the university. The students, organized under the Anti-Discriminations Student Movement, have been actively protesting against what they claim are discriminatory practices within the university's administration. Their demands include the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Md Abdul Baki, and the dismissal of registrar Jossim Uddin.

Alzik Hossain, the coordinator of the student movement, confirmed the resignation to the media around 10:00 AM on Tuesday. Hossain emphasized that the protests will persist until the movement's full list of demands is addressed. These demands include not only the resignation of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and registrar but also broader changes aimed at addressing the issues of discrimination they have highlighted.

Dr. Didarul Islam's resignation marks a significant turn in the ongoing unrest at NSTU. The university administration is now under pressure to respond to the students' demands and to address the underlying issues that led to the protests. The outcome of this situation could have broader implications for the governance and administration of the university.

The NSTU community and other stakeholders are closely watching the developments as the student movement continues to advocate for their cause.
