Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) launched a waste management system on May 16 to ensure the cleanliness of the environment on campus.
2000 kg of waste will be removed every day under the initiative of Sharan Environment Development Foundation, which will run six days a week except Friday.
Professor Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam, Vice-Chancellor, NSTU inaugurated the proframme on May 16. The university administration has already installed dustbins at different places on the campus for the purpose of waste management.
Dr. Mohammad Mohinuzzaman, Chairman, Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management and convener of the waste management committee said, "About 2,000 kg of waste is generated from various buildings and halls of the university every day. The university administration has installed dustbins at different places on the campus to dispose of the waste."
Professor Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam, Vice-Chancellor, NSTU emphasized the importance of proper waste management in sustainable environmental development and stated that the programme aims to ensure the cleanliness of the university's environment. Campus waste will be collected and disposed of promptly through the management system. It is hoped that students, teachers, officials, and employees will cooperate wholeheartedly in this program.

Dr. Mohammad Mohinuzzaman, Chairman, Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management, conducted the inaugural programme while Professor Dr. S.M.Mahbubur Rahman, President (Acting) of NSTUTA, Prof. Dr. Md. Anisuzzaman, General Secretary of NSTUTA, Registrar (Acting) Dr. Muhammad Alamgir Sarkar, Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Provost of Hazrat Bibi Khadija Hall, Dr. Abanti Barua, Provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Deputy Registrar of Estate and Housing section Golap Hossain, and Abul Bashar, General Secretary of Saran Environment Development Foundation, were present in the programme.
