Students at Notre Dame College are calling for the reinstatement of their postponed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams after the interim government canceled all pending HSC and equivalent exams on August 20. This decision followed student protests at the secretariat, which led to the government's move.
In a statement released on August 21, Notre Dame students criticized the government's decision as unilateral and lacking proper consultation. They argued that canceling the exams devalues the efforts of students who have worked hard and deserve a fair assessment. The students presented three main demands: the rescheduling of the 2024 HSC exams, the publication of a list of students injured during the protests along with measures to protect their interests, and a clear policy on how injured students will be treated in future exams. They insist that decisions should be made in consultation with representatives of the affected students to prevent further discrimination.
To press their demands, Notre Dame students will hold a sit-in protest on August 21 at 2 pm in front of the college gate in Motijheel. The demonstration aims to urge the authorities to reconsider their decision and address the students' concerns.
