Many police stations under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) were vandalized and set on fire after the fall of government on August 5. However, normalcy has returned to CMP and they are performing their regular duties.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (PR) of CMP, Kazi Md Tarek Aziz presented the operational successes of the current month in a press conference arranged at Dampara Police Lines Media Centre at 4:30pm on Wednesday.
He said in the last 15 days of this month, a total of 162 cases were filed across 16 police stations in the CMP, with 11 cases in the last 24 hours. A total of 494 suspects were arrested in the past 15 days, and 33 were arrested in the last 24 hours. We accepted 336 warrants and executed 292 of them. An "Open House Day" is held every Tuesday to hear the complaints and problems of the city residents. During one of these sessions, a resident from the Bakalia area raised concerns about drug issues. In response to this, we arrested the drug lord Monir Hossain along with yaba last night. Based on the information he provided, we arrested another individual as well.
He further said we were able to arrest the accused within just four hours of a robbery incident occurring in the Bayezid area. Additionally, a businessman named Rafiqul Haque was abducted by six individuals in the same police precinct. Thanks to the swift action of the police, he has also rescued.
Regarding the looted weapons, he said that a total of 948 weapons were looted from 16 police stations in the CMP on August 5. So far, the police recovered 782 of those weapons. Seven weapons were recovered in the last 15 days, including two pistols and the rest being local firearms.
He said the traffic department is now fully operational. In one month, The traffic department filed 2,879 cases in one month and collected fines of Tk 8,980,650.
‘We are capable of responding quickly in any situation. Even through the national emergency service 999, prompt responses are being provided. Efforts are underway to reorganize the community police. The work is in progress to form a new committee by excluding the old controversial committee. This new community police committee will help bridge the gap between the police and the public,’ he added.
