None has the right to bias, disrupt elections: EC

In response to the questions of the reporters, what instructions have the law enforcement and administration officials given on the occasion of the upcoming 12th National Election, the Election Commissioner said that now we have discussed with the Chattogram District Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer, members of law enforcement and related officials on the occasion of the 12th National Parliament Election.  

Our only directive is to make elections fair, free and acceptable.  No biased behaviour or laxity can be shown in this regard.  If the election is questionable due to biased behaviour of someone, action will be taken against him subject to investigation.

 On the occasion of the 12th National Parliament General Election-2024, Election Commissioner Md. Anisur Rahman arranged a discussions with District Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, members of law enforcement and related officials in the conference room of Chattogram Circuit House as the chief guest Sunday.  Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md. Tofail Islam presided over the meeting .

 The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, Chattogram Range DIG Nur Alam Mina, Chattogram Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah, BGB Regional Commander Brigadier General Sajidur Rahman, Chattogram Regional Election Officer Yunus Ali, Senior District Election Officer Enamul Haque.

EC said that all the parties that participated in the election are still skeptical about whether the election will be fair, he said, "We have always said that we want a fair, acceptable and free election."  That is why everything is being done and will be done to create the right environment.  No one has said anything about it yet.  We know through you that different parties have expressed interest in different ways.  Many groups have already participated and are doing so.  It seems that this year's election will also be contested.  We are not only watching this election with our eyes, the world is also watching.  So there is no option to make the election acceptable, it has to be done.

 In response to the question whether any steps have been taken to ensure that the voters are not intimidated and how to increase the number of voters, the EC said that bringing the voters to the center is not the job of the Election Commission or election officials or law enforcement agencies.  The candidate and the party and the supporters of the party who will make the election.  We have said that any attempt to intimidate the voters will be investigated and action will be taken against them.

He said, elections are ahead, some parties are not going to the elections, they have announced to thwart the elections.  Every party has the right to vote and not vote.  However, no one has the right to disrupt the election.  It is not provided in any law.  If anyone makes such misdeeds, action will be taken against them.
