Despite a significant increase in the daily covid infections and the spread of the new variant Omicron, there is no shortage of medical oxygen in the country.
Professor Robed Amin, spokesperson of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) made the remarks while addressing a regular health bulletin on the country's covid infection situation on Wednesday.
“Even though Omicron and coronavirus infection is increasingly spreading and many more patients are coming to the hospital, we are optimistic that medical oxygen will not be a problem,” said Robed Amin.
He said that there is a big need for oxygen equipment in all the public-private hospitals and it has successfully been provided. There is about 118 central oxygen supply (in pipelines) plants and 29,000 oxygen cylinders available.
There are also about two thousand hypnosis cannulas that covid infected patients need. There are around 2.5 thousand oxygen concentrators in different departments, he added.
He further said that if the department-wise death statistics are looked at, the Dhaka division is ahead. About 43.7 percent of the total deaths in the country are in Dhaka alone. Then there is the Chittagong division, with about 20 pc. Then there is Khulna, where 12.9 pc deaths, Rajshahi 7.35 pc, Barisal 3.38 pc and Mymensingh with the lowest deaths at 3.02pc.
