Police in Narayanganj have made no visible progress in the investigation into the murder case of Sharif Madbor who was hacked to death on broad daylight in front of his house at Deobhog Adarshanagar village in Fatulla on April 1.
Two weeks have been passed but police made no arrest other than those of a ringleader and his eight cohorts who were captured by the locals and later handed over to the police on April 3. According to locals, tnine people, who are members of a criminal gang, are believed to be involved in the murder.
On the day of the murder, victim’s father Alal Madbor filled a murder case with Fatulla police station naming 11 people including the ringleader and accusing 3-4 other unidentified. On April 4, police produced nine arrestees before the court where two gave confessional statement.
When asked the investigation officer (IO) of the case Inspector Shahadat Hossain told this correspondent that police show no negligence in arresting the accused and investigation is on. Family claimed, as the investigation gets slow, the accused are issuing threat to them indirectly.
Victim’s father Alal told The Bangladesh Post that he went to Fatulla Police Station on April 13 to file a general dairy seeking protection to his family but the IO prevented him from doing so. Victim’s mother Rahima Khatun said that the accused had a dispute with her son on March 26, which was settled by the locals.
“Before that, the criminals even threatened Sharif several times. We informed the local Union Parishad member and chairman but didn’t get justice,” she added.
“If police acted against the criminal gang earlier my son would not lost his life,” Rahima lamented. Police’s delaying the probe and arresting all accused is making space to the criminals to go away, family said.
