Earlier on October 29, after inspecting the MA Mannan flyover at Bahaddarhat in the city, the expert team claimed that it was not cracked but could not be convinced. Avoiding the involvement of Chattogram City Corporation and Chattogram Development Authority in the investigation, it was decided to conduct an impartial investigation through the representatives of the two organizations.
Pictures of the crack on the ramp attached to the Kalughat-bound Arakan road on the Bahaddarhat MA Mannan flyover on Monday, October 25, spread through social media. When the panic spread, Chattogram City Corporation and CMP decided to stop the traffic on the same night. Traffic on the ramp has been closed since 11 pm that day. Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam visited the site on Tuesday morning and pointed out the construction defect as the cause of the crack.
