Monowar Hossain Dipjol is set to take on his role as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association (BFAA) after clearing legal hurdles.
The court has ruled in his favor, allowing him to assume office.
Dipjol, who was elected as the general secretary in the BFAA election held on April 19, faced legal challenges that prevented him from immediately starting his duties.
Nipun Akter, the opposing candidate, filed a writ petition in the High Court on May 15, alleging election irregularities and financial misconduct. This petition resulted in a temporary stay order on May 20, preventing Dipjol from assuming his position.
In response, Dipjol filed an appeal with the Chamber Court, which led to the lifting of the stay order on May 26. The court's decision has now cleared the way for him to begin his responsibilities as the General Secretary of BFAA.
The BFAA election saw Misha Sawdagar winning the president's position with 265 votes, defeating Mahmud Koli who received 170 votes. Dipjol secured the general secretary position with 225 votes, while Nipun Akter received 209 votes.
Despite initially accepting her defeat and congratulating the winners with flower garlands, Nipun later challenged the election results, citing corruption and voter manipulation. The High Court's order for an investigation into these allegations remains, but Dipjol is now free to start his duties.
The BFAA election and subsequent legal battles have been a point of significant interest within the film community. With the court's recent ruling, it is expected that Dipjol will now focus on his role and work towards the betterment of the association.
This decision marks a new chapter for the BFAA, with hopes for stability and progress in the organization. Dipjol's supporters are optimistic about his contributions to the association and the future of the Bangladeshi film industry.
