Nine more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, marking the highest number of deaths in a single day so far this year.
During this period, 915 new dengue patients have also been admitted to nationwide hospitals.
This grim record was set between Friday (October 11) at 8:00AM and Saturday (October 12) at 8:00AM, according to a press release from Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Within Dhaka, 175 patients were hospitalised in areas under Dhaka North City Corporation, while 156 were admitted in Dhaka South.
In addition, 100 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 108 in the Barishal Division, 197 in the Chattogram Division, 97 in the Khulna Division, 45 in the Mymensingh Division, 24 in the Rajshahi Division, 9 in the Rangpur Division and 4 in Sylhet Division.
people died in January this year, three in February, five in March, two in April, 12 in May, eight in June, 12 in July, 27 in August, and 80 in September.
According to the DGHS, since January this year, a total of 41,810 patients have been admitted to hospitals due to dengue. So far, 210 people have died from the disease this year.
Last year saw the highest recorded number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease, with 1,705 fatalities.
The DGHS also documented 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries in 2023, making it the most severe dengue outbreak in the country’s history.
