A new trust fund titled ‘Prof. Harun-ar-Rashid Trust Fund’ has been established at Dhaka University (DU). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present on this occasion as chief guest. Former student of DU Physics Department Dr. Monowar Hossain handed over a cheque for Tk. 11 lac 40 thousand to the Treasurer of DU Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed on Wednesday at the VC’s Lounge of the university to set up this trust fund. It may be mentioned that 29 former students of DU Physics Department have donated money to set up this trust fund in memory of late Prof. Harun-ar-Rashid of the department. Dean of the Faculty of Science of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad, Chairperson of the Department of Physics Prof. Dr. Supriya Saha, Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker, wife of late Prof. Harun-ar-Rashid and some other donors were present on this occasion.
Out of the income of this trust fund every year Prof. Harun-ar-Rashid Memorial Lecture will be organized. Besides, Prof. Harun-ar-Rashid Research Supervisor Award and the best PhD/Masters Thesis Award will be given.
