A new syllabus for primary and secondary school students will be prepared adding the ‘missed’ out important chapters of previous year, as students could not complete their old syllabus due to covid-19 pandemic.
Thus, students have to return to previous year’s textbook when they will collect new textbooks from schools, sources said.
All the educational institutions have been closed for last nine months due to coronavirus. As it was not possible to open educational institution, the students have been given auto-promotion to the next class leaving the current year’s syllabus unfinished.
To recover the losses of studies as per the syllabus, the Education Ministry and Primary and Mass Education Ministry have decided to review the syllabus of primary, secondary and higher secondary students with next year’s syllabus.
In this regard, the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has been given instruction to prepare a new syllabus so that students can catchup and complete previous year’s lessons.
It was known that some chapters of the old book would be added to new year’s curriculum which will be taught in three to four months.
Contacted, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Prof Syed Md Golam Farooq told Bangladesh Post, “Although all the students have been given auto-pass without completing the syllabus, important chapters of the previous syllabus will be taught in the next class.”
He said, “NCTB has been instructed to prepare a new syllabus for the next year by adding some topics [must learn] of previous. For this reason, it has been decided to submit old books to schools while receiving new year books. We have instructed the field level officials in this regard. They will instruct the heads of the educational institutions to implement it.”
On the other hand, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education AM Mansur Alam said, “Important chapters missed out during studies in the previous year will be added to the new syllabus of the primary school students to achieve the required learning results of the previous year.”
He also said, “Old books from the previous year will be kept in schools before new books are taken in the new year. The field level primary education officials have been informed to give instructions to the educational institutions in this regard.”
On December 31, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to unveil the cover of new school textbooks through a virtual conference. For this, a textbook unveiling ceremony will be organized by Education Ministry at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.
After the announcement of distribution of textbooks, the students or guardians will collect new books from the respective educational institutions.
