A new national school curriculum with major reforms will be introduced from 2025 in all public and private schools across the country.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni while sharing the news said that work for the new curriculum will begin in the whole country from 2023. However, piloting of introducing the new lesson books will start in 100 primary and 100 secondary schools from 2022. Teachers’ training is on-going because of this and a teacher's guidebook is being prepared.

The Minister disclosed the information while speaking to the media after a reception hosted by the Quantum Foundation at Kakrail in the capital on Saturday.

Earlier, at a press conference on September 13 to present the National Curriculum Outline, the Education Minister had informed that major reforms are coming in the education system from primary to secondary classes.

“The public examination PEC scheduled for 5th grade and 8th grade periodical exam JSC will be canceled. Furthermore, individual departments of humanities, science and business education departments will no longer exist in ninth and tenth classes,” she said.

At the press conference, the Minister said that the division that existed in the ninth and tenth grades will no longer exist in different departments like humanities, science or business.

She said that after the implementation of the curriculum, the examinations of classes 11 and 12 will be conducted once a year and the final result will be determined according to the results of these two classes. There will be one test after the 11th and another test after the 12th.  The result of HSC will be determined by combining the results of these two exams.

The Minister said that there will be separate books for grades nine and 10. Everyone will study the 10 subjects with no separate sections.

Dipu Moni said, “We are not talking about public examinations in 5th or 8th classes. However, the class final examinations will be held in these classes. We will give certificates where necessary on the basis of evaluation at different levels.”

The minister added that a final exam will be held in each class. Some of these will be continuous assessments and some collective assessments. However, there will be no tests till class three.

“After six months of piloting, hopefully, we will be able to implement the new curriculum from 2023. In that case, in 2023, it will be first introduced in class 1 and class 2 and in class 6 and class 7,” she said.

The education minister further said that in 2024, the curriculum will be introduced in classes 4 and 5 and in classes 8 and 9. All necessary steps are being taken to implement it.
