In an effort to prevent the new type of coronavirus, the government has issued new guidelines for expatriates who want to return to the country.
From now on, expatriate Bangladeshis from African countries will have to stay in compulsory quarantine, and at the same time, they will have to show the Coronavirus negative RT-PCR report 48 hours in advance, which was 72 hours earlier.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek made the revelation to reporters after a function organized at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.
The health minister said, “Passengers coming from Africa have been asked to take 14 days of quarantine compulsorily. At the same time they have to show the Covid-19 certificate 48 hours in advance.”
The health minister further said, “If any person from any country comes without a coronavirus certificate/test, he / she must go on a compulsory institutional quarantine of 48 hours.
“There are very few people in the hotels we had arranged before for quarantine. As a result many of them have returned to their normal business operations. We call on them again and are arranging quarantine for the expatriates returning to Bangladesh,” said Zahid Malek.
“We have issued instructions at all entrances of the country, including airports and land ports, to prevent the transmission of Omicron. If everyone cooperates, I hope we will be successful again in preventing the new form of coronavirus,” Zahid Maled added further.
Urging the expatriates especially those living in African countries not to come to the country for the time being, he said, “Those who are working abroad from this country, especially those who are in African countries, we request you to stay at your respective workplaces. If 20,000 of the country’s expatriates come from Africa at once, we will not be able to arrange quarantine for them all at a time.”
