The newly constructed hippo and crocodile cages have been inaugurated at the Chattogram Zoo.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Zoo Executive Committee President Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman inaugurated the two cages on Monday evening.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Vice-Chairman of Zoo Executive Committee Rakib Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md Sadi Ur Rahim Jadid, Kattoli Circle Assistant Commissioner (Land) Umar Faruq, Founder Member of Chattogram Zoo and Raojan Upazila Chairman Ehsanul Haider Chowdhury Babul, Staff Officer to DC Plaban Kumar Biswas, Executive Magistrate Prateek Dutta, Zoo Curator Shahadat Hossain Shuvo and others were present on the occasion.
While inaugurating the hippopotamus and crocodile cages, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman told the reporters present that one more hippopotamus is expected to come to the zoo within a week. Besides, Giraffe and American Flamingo will soon join this zoo. Plans have been taken to transform Chattogram Zoo into the best zoo in the country by further modernizing it. There are also plans to increase its size and park an aviary on the adjoining land.
He also said that about 10,000 people including students and parents come to the zoo on weekends i.e. every Friday and Saturday and another 10,000 people come to the zoo for entertainment on 5 days from Sunday to Thursday. We want to make this zoo known as the biggest entertainment spot in Bangladesh. This requires everyone's sincere cooperation.
