The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU), Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, has urged people not to spend money on flowers for greetings during the current natural calamity. He emphasized that, in times of such calamity, unnecessary expenses should be avoided.
Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, the 30th VC of DU, shared his views after the Ministry of Education issued a notification on Tuesday) regarding his temporary appointment. He pointed out that the country is currently facing a severe flood, which has led to a humanitarian disaster. Many, including students, are actively involved in helping the flood victims, showcasing the nation’s unity and determination.
In his statement, Professor Khan mentioned that while the role of VC is indeed prestigious, the current situation calls for prioritizing essential needs over ceremonial gestures.
He expressed that spending money on flowers for greetings is
unnecessary during such a challenging time. Instead, he encouraged everyone to focus on helping those affected by the disaster and to avoid any excesses.
