In the current 2021-22 Fiscal Year (FY), 7 four-storey college buildings and 24 secondary school buildings are being constructed all over Chandpur district at a cost of Tk 374 million.
Chandpur District Education Engineering Department (EED), Chandpur is implementing this project informed Swapan Kumar Saha, Deputy Assistant Engineer at Chandpur EED recently.
According to sources, the cost for constructing the new college buildings has been fixed at Tk 170.8 million and the cost for constructing the secondary school buildings has been fixed at Tk 204 million.
Of these, he construction cost for each of the four-storey college building has been set Tk 24.4 million while the one-storey secondary school buildings will be constructed at a cost of Tk 8.5 million each.

The colleges that will get new buildings are: Kamranga High School and College in Chandpur Sadar, Nurul Azad College in Kachua, Kaligar Bazar High School and College in Faridganj, Chitoshi Degree College in Shahrasti, Deshgaon College in Hajiganj, Munshi Azimuddin College in Matlab and Moazzem Hossain College in Haimchar.
Meanwhile, the secondary schools to get new buildings includes 12 schools in Chandpur Sadar, 1 in Haimchar, 4 in Faidganj, 2 in Kachua, 2 in Dakkhin Matlab, 1 in Uttar Matlab and 2 in Hajiganj under the construction project of secondary school construction or upward expansion project.
Land acquisition, soil verification and tender application for some of these buildings are currently underway. Work order for the construction of the college building has been completed already. Chandpur EED has directed to complete the construction of the college building within 18 months and the school buildings within 12 months.
Swapan Kumar Saha, Deputy Assistant Engineer of EED said, “The government is developing the infrastructure of educational institutions to maintain a favourable learning environment and improve the quality of education.”
“The EED has taken initiative to build these infrastructures to make them more attractive. Once these buildings are constructed a better learning environment will be created in the area and the quality of education will improve too”, he added.
It is learned that under the direction of the Prime Minister, the design for the new buildings will be prepared in an eco-friendly manner with ramps and separate toilets for students with special needs, porch, adequate lighting and ventilation, sloping roof and red tile on the roof.
Besides, the EED is repairing, renovating and constructing classroom furniture for various government and private schools and colleges in the district.
According to EED sources, the government has taken initiative to construct modern and well-furnished buildings in all educational institutions across the country by 2021. Madrasas and technical education institutions have been given priority in this project.
In the last ten years, new buildings have been constructed in 2,400 madrasas across the country. Initiatives have been taken to construct academic buildings in another 1,800 selected madrasas.

According to a report of the Education Ministry, under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, major changes have been made in the education sector in the last decade starting from 2009 to 2018.
During this period, construction of 11,306 buildings in various educational institutions has been completed. The construction work of 12,673 educational institution’s buildings will be completed by 2021. The old dilapidated buildings have also been extensively renovated.
In the last 10 years, 23,979 new buildings have been constructed across the country through EED except another 7,641 dilapidated buildings of private educational institutions. The Department of Education Engineering expects that the construction of these buildings will signal a revolutionary change in the field of education.
