Newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman has paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital on Monday.
After that, the army chief prayed for the departed souls of the father of the nation and his family members who were martyred on August 15, 1975. He signed the inspection book kept there. He also visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
Later, the Chief of Army Staff paid tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Great Liberation War by laying a wreath at the National Martyrs’ Monument in Savar and saluting the brave martyrs.
Earlier in the morning, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman placed floral wreaths at the Shikha Anirban (the eternal flame) and paid tribute to the martyrs of the country’s war of independence in 1971.
Also, he signed the inspection book kept there.
Then he went to Senakunja. He was then given a guard of honor by a smart army contingent at Senakunja and planted a sapling there.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman succeeded General Shafiuddin Ahmed as the new army chief on June 23. He will lead the Bangladesh Army for the next three years.
