Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University established in Trishal is also known as Nazrul University. This university has been established for 17 years. Since its inception, the University has been involved in modern, realistic, science-based and action-oriented educational activities for the expansion of education in the country. The present administration is taking the university forward with the three objectives of education, research and development in mind.
At present, the campus is full of teachers, students, officials and employees. As a result, there is a great need for infrastructure development to keep pace with the times, provide proper learning environment to the students, and ensure housing facilities. Aiming at those needs, Nazrul University has started massive infrastructure development.
Under the leadership of the present administration, the construction work of those infrastructures is continuing. Vice-Chancellor Professor Soumitra Sekhar Dey is supervising all the development work properly. The construction work is going on ignoring all kinds of obstacles. Construction workers are spending busy time day and night. The buildings are already visible.
Engineer Hafizur Rahman, Director, Planning, Development and Works Department of the University, said, "We want to build the campus as a modern and smart campus as soon as possible as per the instructions of the Vice-Chancellor Sir." And that is why there is no alternative to the development of physical infrastructure. Nothing has hindered our work in completing the ongoing work within the stipulated time.
According to the administrative building of the university, the area of the campus, which started with only 5 acres, is now 57 acres. There are 24 departments under 6 faculties. The Institute of Nazrul Studies has been established to give a new dimension to Nazrul research. Nazrul Premises has 8,340 students
On foot. There are also 205 teachers, 139 officers and 194 employees. There are 4 residential halls in the student accommodation. These are- Agni-Bina Hall, Dolan-Champa Hall, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall. More than 3 thousand Students can stay in the halls. There are 4 buildings and a dormitory for the accommodation of teachers, officers and employees.
In order to meet the demand of teachers, students and officials, the present education-friendly government has given special favors to Nazrul University. Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina approved a project worth Tk 840.56 crore for physical infrastructure development at the Executive Committee (ECNEC) meeting of the National Economic Council. At present, a huge development work is going on in the campus. The construction work of the infrastructure is going on as far as the campus can be seen. Hundreds of workers work tirelessly every day at seven or eight sites.
According to the information received from the Department of Planning, Development and Works of the University, under the project titled 'Physical Infrastructure Development of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University (1st Amendment)', construction of 13 physical infrastructures is underway at present, construction of 6 more buildings is in the early stages.
Teachers, students and officials are also very optimistic about the visible buildings of the university. According to them, once the construction work of these buildings is completed, the existing problems of the campus will be alleviated to a great extent. At the same time a fair and clean education-residential environment will be created.
