Low quality bricks are being used in a road development project in Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat. Broken and dilapidated bricks are being used for the development of 1000 meters of road from Chakalmua to Nimerpara in Punat Union of that upazila.
It is known that the construction of 1000 meters of road from Chaklamuwa-Nimerpara of Punt Union Parishad of Kalai Upazila under the Hearing Bone Bond (HBB) as second phase project with the aim of sustaining dirt roads in rural areas was started on April 17 this year and the work was supposed to be completed on May 26. But the contractor could not finish the work within that time. Tk 5.6 million been allocated for this work.
However, the work of the road is often at the end, but on one side the work is being done, on the other side, due to the load of the trolley, the soling bricks are breaking. Numerous broken bricks were dumped by the roadside. In addition, these broken bricks were seen to carry pedestrians.
Several residents from Nimerpara village of Punt union said that the bricks laid for the road work are being carried out with double claps using old bricks and broken bad bricks. The officials inspected the road but did not take necessary measures. In this regard, the contractor Rana Chowdhury said, the upazila engineer will take care of whether my work is good, not of low quality or according to the schedule.
Kalai Upazila Project Implementation Officer Ruhul Amin said that the complaint that the contractor is making irregularities in the road work has been reported to the police station.
This work was done before June 30. The work was stopped for some time. Later, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer inspected the road and ordered to take necessary action against the contractor.
In this regard, Kalai Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tuktuk Talukder said that the road has been inspected and the contractor has been warned. Still, if there is any irregularity, the necessary action will be taken after looking into it. The concerned PIO has already been instructed to look into the matter and take action
