NDUBBC organises ‘Case Buzz 2.0’

Notre Dame University Bangladesh Business Club (NDUBBC) organised an intra university competition on 4 July  named Dhaka Bank Intra University Case Competition "Case Buzz 2.0". This competition was based on case solving and creating an innovative slide and giving presentation based on solving case.

Case Buzz 2.0 started with 25 teams. The 25 teams were formed from various departments of Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB). There were many teams from CSE, Law, English, Economics and specially BBA department.

From the 25 teams top 16 were chosen from the elimination round. The elimination round was a very difficult and crucial stage of this competition. Some of the prominent teams who battled it out during the elimination round were Enhancers, Storm Bringers, Combat, Peace Keepers, XYZ, Thunder Volt, Case Crackers, Eight Percent, Four Wheels, Quark’s, Zeroes, 3 Stars, Phoenix, Hawk’s Eyes, The Meteors, Creative Seekers.

The elimination round was held on 4 July from 5pm-9pm. The elimination round took place in front of the internal judges and the teams were given a case and were enforced to solve it and make a slide for it prior to the presentation in front of the judges. Internal judges tested the teams to their limits. The teams were asked a number of questions regarding the case. The teams which were not able to answer the questions properly or present the case were eliminated.

After the Elimination Round, Top 9 teams were selected for the Grand Finale. Peace Keepers, Combat, Enhancers, Quark’s, 3 stars, Case Crackers, Storm Bringers, Creative Seekers, Eight Percent were the prominent teams who made it to the final stage.

The Grand Finale started at 12pm. The participants were given a case and they had to solve the case in a given time limit. The given time limit for this case solving was exactly 2 hours. The finalists had to sort out the case, make an interesting slide based on this case in these two hours.

They were given additional time of 45 minutes for lunch break and 20 minutes to get ready for giving presentation in front of the judges. The judges were Tashrif ul Islam, Shaan Farabi and Samid Razzak.

The judges assured a very eloquent judgement of the participants. They monitored and evaluated the participants very well and gave their valuable insights on the presentations. The presentation round of the Grand Finale started with the presentation of the Group Enhancers at 3:15pm and ended with presentation of the group “Peace Keepers” at 5:30pm.

After the presentation round ended the judges were given time to rate the finalist’s and choose the ‘Top 3’ of the Case Buzz 2.0. (90% marks of the results were based on judge’s decision and 10% marks were carried from the audience participation).

Meanwhile, when the judges were finalizing the outcome of the event, the audiences were amused by the gritty and humorous wit of Iftekhar Ahmad, the host of the event.

“Giving a speech on the stage and overcoming the fear of public speaking is one of the key aspects of making a person successful” was one of the valued quotes that was said by Iftekhar Ahmad.

There was also an award giving ceremony held for the honorary guests which were presented by Iftekhar Ahmad, Mushidur Rahman and the President of the NDUBBC Alex Romario.

The judges shared their experiences and advices with the audience. Shaan Farabi said,“CGPA is mandatory; But a good cgpa without extra-curricular activities is useless in the job sector because nowadays all the companies requires skills”.

Samid Razzak said, “Extra-Curricular activities and a good portfolio goes hand in hand”. Whereas, Tashrif ul Islam said, “Participation in the competitions and not worrying about failure and gathering experience from the competitions help in the long run”.

The best presenter was from the group “Eight Percent”, The best slide maker was the team “Combat” and the top 3 teams of the event were : Peace Keepers (Champions), Combat (1st Runner Up), Enhancers (2nd Runner Up).

After the announcement of the winners Alex Romario thanked all the audiences, judges, volunteers and the esteemed honorable guests and moderators for attending the event and making the event successful. The event ended at 6:30pm with a photo session.
