The National Board of Revenue (NBR) plans to implement automated system for auditing taxpayers’ files, aiming to remove human intervention and reducing harassment during tax audits, said NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan.
He also said taskforces will be formed with private sector participation to review and update income tax, customs, and VAT laws.
He made the remarks while addressing a meeting with FBCCI leaders as the apex body leaders visited him.
NBR Chairman also said that instructions have been given to commence the automation process soon. This initiative is part of a broader effort to gradually modernize the revenue management system.
He said NBR will also focus on improving the ADR system to resolve disputes more effectively.
Khan urged businesses to operate with honesty and integrity and assured that the NBR would remain vigilant against any form of harassment by its officials. FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam, along with other key delegates, emphasized the need for faster implementation of the National Single Window and greater automation of customs, VAT, and income tax procedures. Alam highlighted the importance of simplifying the customs assessment process to foster a more business-friendly environment.
He also proposed measures to expand the tax base, reform revenue administration, enhance the NBR-FBCCI relationship, and improve the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system. The FBCCI leaders suggested establishing a hotline for businesses to report harassment by tax officials and advocated for the formation of three taskforces to amend outdated tax laws.
