The National Board of Revenue (NBR) allowed import of all types of goods, except powdered milk, through Bhomra Land Port of Satkhira, the second largest land port of the country.
NBR issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.
The importers expressed their joy as they got the permission to import all types of goods through this land port during the interim government.
Although the second largest land port of the country Bhomra land port in Satkhira is a very potential port, there was no opportunity to import all kinds of goods through this port. Although geographically its distance was less from Kolkata, many traders did not use Bhomra land port. The most important reason was that all goods were not allowed for import thru this port. Moreover, infrastructural development was an important factor.
The port users concerned, including the traders’ association, have been demanding of creating opportunities for importing all kinds of products and infrastructural development of Bhomra land port for a long time.
The traders are very happy as their long-awaited expectations have been fulfilled. Finally, the Bhomra land port saw the light after the mass uprising of the students-people. After the interim government took over, NBR issued a notification allowing import of all products except powdered milk.
The port sources said under the NBR allowed products, there are many products, including aluminum tableware and kitchenware, Agarbati, shoe soles, dry jujube, fly ash, fresh and dry fruits, all kinds of fresh vegetables, dry chili, green chili, coriander, marble chips, talc, soda powder, mustard, sesame, readymade garments, imitation jewelry, cotton, agriculture equipment, spices, sugar and so on.
After hearing the good news, all port related C&F agents, trade union C&F employees’ association, importer-exporters association, officers and employees of all transport associations, led by Bhomra C&F Association Ad Hoc Committee Member Secretary Ahidul Islam and Convener Habibur Rahman Habib, observed various programmes including distribution of sweets.
Bhomra C&F Association Ad Hoc Committee Member Secretary Ahidul Islam and Convener Habibur Rahman Habib said Bhomra land port is the second largest land port of the country. Although it is a very potential port, it was not possible to import all types of goods through this port. We got the approval after a lot of waiting. Hopefully, Bhomra port will play a leading role in collecting the government revenue. We demand to the authorities to speed up the development of the port infrastructure.
