The Bangladesh Navy has once again demonstrated its dominance in national swimming by winning the 33rd Max Group National Swimming Championships. The event, held over four days at the Syed Nazrul Islam Swimming Complex, saw the Navy team amass an impressive haul of 32 gold, 26 silver, and 12 bronze medals, securing their position as champions. The Army team finished as runners-up, collecting 10 gold, 15 silver, and 23 bronze medals.
Two new national records were set on Tuesday. Juthi Akter of the Navy set a new benchmark in the women's 100m backstroke with a time of 1 minute 11.83 seconds, breaking the previous record of 1 minute 12.37 seconds set by Suraiya Akter in 2022. In the men's 400m freestyle, Kajol Mia of the Navy surpassed his own record from 2021, finishing in 4 minutes 14.25 seconds.
In the men's category, Samiul Islam Rafi of the Bangladesh Navy was named the best swimmer, having won five gold medals and one bronze, along with setting three new national records. In the women's category, Juthi Akter was honoured as the best swimmer, securing four gold medals (three of which were new national records) and one silver.
The awards were presented by Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel). Also in attendance were Engineer Golam Mohammad Alamgir, Vice President of the Swimming Federation and Chairman of Max Group, and Acting General Secretary Md. Selim Mia.
