Chattogram Regional Election Commission celebrated the 5th Voter's Day at Circuit House of the city with various programs under the theme 'Voters will follow the rules and vote for those who are eligible'.
On Thursday morning, the day celebrations were started with a colourful rally with balloons flying from the circuit house premises.
Chief guest Chattogram Range DIG Mohammad Anwar Hossain said National Voter's Day is being celebrated to make the people of the country aware. The new generation does not know how much our forefathers have struggled to get this right to vote. At one time the common people did not even have the right to vote. After the fall of Ayub Khan after the Mughal, British rule, Yahiya Khan announced a national election under military rule. He introduced a clause called Legal Framework Order. Then he did not dare to participate in the election of any political party after reading the matters mentioned in Audrey. Only Bangabandhu participated in the election under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu had stipulated that the number of seats should be distributed on the basis of population and one vote per person should be ensured. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman claimed the right to vote today. So today's National Voter's Day is a product of many hardships of our forefathers.
Additional Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Anwar Pasha, Additional Commissioner of Police MA Masud, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Muhammad Fakhruzzaman spoke as special guests under the chairmanship of Chattogram Regional Election Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman. Also, the employees of various government departments, students of various schools and colleges along with journalists of press and electronic media were present.
The speakers said, what is our consciousness, where we want to take ourselves as citizens, depends on who we are electing in elections. A vote for a district administrator or a roadside betel vendor is worth the same in democratic rules. So, besides being aware ourselves, we have to make citizens of all classes aware. May we all vote for a worthy person.
