National Fisheries week observed in Moulvibazar

Fish fries has been released in Moulvibazar on the occasion of National Fisheries Week. District Fisheries Department has given awards to seven successful women fishermen and five fisher entrepreneurs for motivating fishermen and fishermen in Moulvibazar district. 

On Sunday (August 29) morning, in a joint venture between the district administration and the district fisheries office, Moulvibazar-3 Nesar Ahmed MP released the several fish shrimps the municipal pond. Additional District Magistrate Rumana Yasmin, District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Emdadul Haque and other officials of the Fisheries Department were present at the time.

Afterwards, National Fisheries Week was inaugurated at the conference room. A total of seven successful women fishermen and five successful entrepreneurs of the district got awarded at the programme. Press Club General Secretary Panna Dutt also spoke at the programme.

In his welcome address at the inaugural function presided over by Additional District Magistrate Rumana Yasmin, District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Emdadul Haque said 3 tonnes of domestic carp shrimps would be released from the revenue sector in the district this time. Besides, about 5 tons of local fish species have already been released from Bill Nursery in the haors of the district. As a result, it will play an important role in increasing the fish production of the district and meeting the demand for non-vegetarian food.

 Speakers at the time said that fish production in Moulvibazar district inhabited by Hakaluki, Kawadighi and Hail Haor is increasing every year. However, if fishing in these natural reservoirs is stopped for at least one month during the breeding season, the conservation and production of endangered species of native fish will increase a lot. The meeting was requested to take appropriate steps in this regard. Besides, filling of haors, digging of canals, demarcation of haors to prevent encroachment, protection of environment and environment and reduction in fish feed prices will increase entrepreneurship, create more employment opportunities and increase fish production.

Chief Guest Neshar Ahmed MP said that Moulvibazar district has surplus in fish production for the last few years as a result of practical steps taken by the Prime Minister to develop the fisheries department. Moulvibazar district is being exported beyond the borders of the country. In the ongoing Covid-19 situation, several variant of fishes worth around Tk 2 crore have been exported through Chatla border of Moulvibazar. Not only that, the number of entrepreneurs and fish farmers has increased in the district in collaboration with the Fisheries Department. 

He urged to increase fish production in natural water bodies and assured cooperation with the concerned authorities to stop fishing during the breeding season. He hoped that with the concerted efforts of all, fish production would further increase and Moulvibazar would play a role as one of the districts in meeting the country's economy and demand for meat.
