National fish week was observed in Jhenaidah with a view to build Smart Bangladesh with adequate safe fish production.
Jhenaidah district administration and department of fisheries had jointly organised the programme.
To mark the day, a colouful rally was brought from Jhenaidah Old DC Court premises that ended at Jhenaidah Sadar upazila parishad premises parading the main roads in the town.
A discussion meeting was held at Jhenaidiah Sadar upazila parishad auditorium with deputy commissioner (DC) SM Rafiqul Islam in the chair. Jhenaidah-1 seat lawmaker, also president of Bangladesh Awami League Jhenaidah district unit Abdul Hyee attended the discussion as chief guest. Jhenaidah- Magura women reserved seat lawmaker Khaleda Khanam, additional superintendent of police in Jhenaidah Sadar circle Imran Jakaria, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Sadiya Jarin, assistant commissioner of land Sharmin Akter Sumi and district information officer (DIO) Abu Bakar Siddique attended the discussion as special guests. District fisheries officer (DFO) Farhadur Reza presented the welcome speech in the discussion session.
The speakers said the country had produced a total of 7.54 lakh tons of fish about 39 years in 1983-84 fiscal, while the country had produced 47.50 lakh tons of the water species in 2021-22. It had exceeded the national fish production target in the country.
The speakers had urged upon the fishermen community people and fisheries department officials to adopt modern technology to boost production of fish and fish species applying safer method. It will help build the country Smart as desired by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, they said.
