Volleyball players in Bangladesh have launched a protest demanding significant reforms within the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF). A human chain demonstration was held in front of the Shaheed Noor Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in Paltan, Dhaka, on Monday, where players and former players presented a 19-point ultimatum to the current BVF committee.
Led by former national team stars Sohail Rana and Saddam, the protesters raised concerns about corruption, irregularities, and a lack of opportunities for players. They called for the immediate resignation of the current BVF committee and the formation of an ad-hoc committee, which should include at least 30% of former players.
The protesters highlighted several specific demands, including: resignation of the current BVF committee, formation of an ad-hoc committee with 30% former player representation, audit of the BVF by an impartial firm, inclusion of skilled former players in coaching and selection committees, inclusion of prestigious corporate clubs and fan-supported popular clubs in leagues, annual organization of women's and men's volleyball leagues, organization of inter-university volleyball competitions, inclusion of at least 14-15 national team players in the salary structure
The players have given the BVF committee a 72-hour deadline to address their demands. If these demands are not met, the protesters have threatened to escalate their actions.
